Special Education

There is one thing to remember about special education: students with IEPs are general education students first

Text on a teal background: 'Students with IEPs are general education learners first.' A flower grows from steps.

They are not guests in the general education classroom.

They are full members of the general education community, with the right to be supported, included, and empowered within that setting. It's our responsibility to ensure they receive the support they deserve.

Special education provides specially designed instruction - teaching that is customized to meet each student's unique learning needs

Every child learns differently, and we work hard to make sure our regular classrooms meet the needs of every learner. When our general education and special education teachers work together, students with disabilities get the same great opportunities as all students while learning alongside their classmates through this specially designed instruction and support.

The Clinton Public Schools are dedicated to

  • Providing special education services in the least restrictive environment to the maximum extent possible;
  • Empowering each student to have their voice reflected in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP);
  • Implementing research-based interventions and strategies to ensure effective progress for all students;
  • Fostering and maintaining collaborative relationships with families to meet the needs of their students’;
  • Assisting students’ in achieving their post-secondary goals;
  • For students in out-of-district programs, maintaining a connection to their home district
  • Following the Massachusetts Special Education Regulations developed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
