February 2026
Dear Clinton Community,
This has certainly been the most snow we have seen here in a while. Hopefully, we will get some melting over February break, after all, spring sports are right around the corner! In this letter, please find a few calendar updates, an update on our budget process, and an update on the Clinton Middle School Project.
2025-2026 School Year Calendar
Just a reminder that February Break is next week; there is no school from February 16 through February 20. Classes will resume on Monday, February 23.
Also, with the snow day that occurred on January 26, the new last day of school for grades 1-11 is currently Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Finally, just a reminder that there is no school scheduled for March 20. This is a full-day professional development day for the district.
2026-2027 School Year Calendar
On Monday, February 9, the School Committee approved the calendar for the 2026-2027 school year. Please note that the 2026-2027 school year will start a little earlier than normal and have a few extra half days at the end of the year. This is to allow for packing up classrooms and moving into the new CMS in the summer of 2027.
The first day of school for grades 1-12 is scheduled for August 26, 2026, and the last day of school is currently scheduled for June 9, 2027. The full calendar can be found at this link and on our website.
FY27 Budget
Clinton Public Schools is currently in the process of developing our FY27 Budget. A preliminary budget was presented in January, and then our Budget Version A was released on February 9. Currently, we are trying to reduce our budget in order to more closely match the budget numbers that were used in the Governor’s proposed budget. Due to significant increases in our Special Education out-of-district tuition costs, we anticipate that we will most likely have to reduce staffing again this year. Our goal will be to minimize the disruption to students and to try to focus on eliminating positions that are currently unfilled, filled with permanent substitutes, or that we anticipate will become vacant through retirements. We will release Budget Version B at the School Committee meeting on March 9, 2026.
CMS Building Update
The CMS building continues to progress on time and under budget. The snow has slowed some of the progress down, but they are still ahead of the preliminary schedule. One of the sections is currently “tented” and heated to allow work to continue throughout the winter. All of the aspects of the construction continue to be bid out, and we are beginning to have conversations on finishing details such as colors and logos for the gym floor and scoreboards. You can stay informed of the progress through the CMS building website:

I hope that everyone has a restful February vacation.
Stay Warm!
Sincerely,
Steven C. Meyer, Ed.D.
